Inverness is the capital of the Highlands and the natural starting point for most Highland trips. It is a compact city on the River Ness, with the airport and the train station both close at hand, and it is where the North Coast 500 begins and ends. We have one self catering apartment here, finished to a high standard and set up for people who want a proper base rather than a hotel room.
The apartment has two bedrooms, both with king size beds, and one of them has its own en-suite. There are two modern bathrooms, each with a walk-in shower. The kitchen, dining and living space is open plan and bright, with a kitchen island, a fully equipped kitchen with new appliances, and a Nespresso machine for the morning. It sleeps four.
It suits a family, two couples travelling together, or someone up on business who would rather cook their own breakfast. As with all our places, you book direct with us.
If you are driving the NC500, Inverness is where it starts. Staying in the city the night before means you begin the route rested, with the shopping done and the car packed, instead of driving north after a long journey to get here.
Inverness is small enough to walk. The river runs through the middle of it, with the Ness Islands footbridges a short stroll from the centre, and Inverness Castle looks down over the whole thing. Loch Ness begins just outside the city, and Urquhart Castle sits on its shore about half an hour away.
From Inverness you are within reach of a great deal of the Highlands in a day. The Moray Firth coast and Nairn are east of the city, where our two cottages are. Speyside and the whisky distilleries are south east. The west coast and the mountains are a couple of hours away.
We are a couple who restore and run our own properties, so when you enquire you are speaking to the people who look after the place. If the apartment is not free for your dates, tell us what you need and we will say honestly whether one of our Nairn cottages would work instead.
